ACE Vacation

I've been thinking alot about ACE and I've come to realize that with each update, it's less and less fun for me.

The things I like about ACE, that have the greatest impact on my experience are the sounds and some of the effects though the vanilla effects aren't too shabby especially now that I can run the game on a much higher detail level and I can run the sound mod without the rest of ACE.

I enjoy ArmA because of its' huge terrain and intelligent AI that requires more tactics than other faster paced fps games. I don't play ArmA in order to remember to put my earplugs or goggles on so I don't go deaf and blind. It's getting a bit annoying to me and I've got some serious patience when it comes to this game.

One change that I don't like personally is the fact that you cannot fly a chopper and gun yourself. I enjoyed doing both plus, when we only have a small group of people playing, taking two people away for a chopper kills any ground attack that might have been going.

Basically ACE is getting in the way of my enjoyment so I'm going to load up the private server with Vanilla and spend some time there and see if that helps.

I'm also curious to see how vanilla runs now since ACE has seemingly become less stable that it was initially.

Well if we're ACE'Venting I can honestly say it's been a challenge. There are really a lot of chores to do just to get into play. And as you've said, more or less, most of us play for a break from REAL life.

I have in all fairness to ACE either come to grips or argued the poiunts on Bhemia's web sight forums (along with others) till some things seem to have been adjusted or changed. Stamnia is one of my biggist peeves. Now I know in REAL life you can only carry so much and walk must less run far. And I also know at my age it would be an effort just to load most of that gear on. But this is a game and NOT REAL life.

But I do love the game and the mods such as Domination make it more enjoyable. Some tweeaks by those learned enough like NICK helps a lot too. I'd be willing to give vanilla ArmA 2 a try just to jostle the memory as to how ti was.

But unless the majority decide on veering from ACE I guess I'll stick with it. But, as I said above, their seems to always be a continual learning curve that escapes me. And the updates. I read some where in the ACE thread on Bohemia that there is only 3 updates a week. And yet not knowing which days those will be, we updater daily. Wiping any progress out in a twenty four hour period.

Still, IT is a great game. Hope you stay with us or us with you on it.

Chief, this is just my opinion which has formed over the past couple weeks of updates that seem to be making the game ultra realistic.

They state they make updates 3 times a week but they have released updates on tuesdays as well as thursdays in the past so that's how we landed on the everyday schedule. We can always adjust this with the server provider if needed.

yea well the above is just my way of saying I agree with you while at the same time trying to sit on a splintered fence....OOOWWWW!!!
